They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology which streams audio with higher bitrates over Bluetooth (although not as high-quality as a dedicated headphone DAC).

The latest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the initial headphones to the next level with better ANC performance and a refreshed design.

The bio-cellulose drivers of 40mm in the earcups are placed in a way that they point directly at your eardrums. This delivers a more intimate audio experience than other headphones with a closed back. It's a bold statement however the PX7 S2 delivers on. Vocals are clear and clear and bass is deep and rumbly when it's needed to be.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well in voice calls, with crisp and clear audio that doesn't overpower your own voice. The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finishes and swooping curvatures that reminiscent Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also have premium materials like magnesium and aluminum for an extremely sturdy build that is comfortable, solid and worth the price.

In Bluetooth mode when Bluetooth is enabled, the Bathys deliver a crisp and lively sound quality that easily beats similar priced consumer ANC options such as the Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode allows them to be pushed further, making them a great choice for true hifi enthusiasts.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to adjust the headphone's playback controls as well as Bluetooth pairing preferences. Users can choose between soft or silent intensities for ANC as well as alter the brightness of LEDs on the headphone's earcups, and alter the EQ settings. They are light and comfortable, but they're a bit tight for my taste. They have a USB-C charging port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable included in the box. They allow multipoint Bluetooth pairing, which means you can connect to two devices at once should you choose to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid noise-cancelling tech did an excellent job of curbing background noise, with just a couple of noticeable blips when walking through Waterloo station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers weren't able to block every sound in the vicinity however they struggled with lower frequencies sounds, such as the engine rumbling sound of buses and trains.

The CH720N's Bluetooth connection worked smoothly and displayed a low harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and found that they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments well. It did an excellent job of reducing the bass in rock tracks and focusing the mix.

The WH-CH720N is a good value for PS130. It isn't equipped with some of Sony's most popular features (such as Speak-to-Chat and Fast Attention) however it comes with many excellent features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and the DSEE upscaling are all included. The only thing not available is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support, which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
