Robot vacuums remove pet hair, lint and dust from floors before they settle. They can also avoid stairs and other obstacles, including tippy furniture.

The majority of robotic vacuums require maintenance, such as emptying (and occasionally, rinsing) the bin, and wiping sensors and cameras. Additionally, they must be connected to an electrical source. A lot of them have apps for smartphones for scheduling, adjusting setting and more.

The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent in a line of top Robot vacuum cleaner-of-the-line robot vacuums, is an essential for every modern home. This model has seriously strong suction and an HEPA filter that'll assist anyone suffering from allergies. It also has an extremely powerful battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours before returning to its dock automatically when the bin is full.

Smart mapping is a different feature that assists in identifying areas of your home that require attention and provides a cleaning path to get around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does an excellent job of maneuvering around toys left scattered on the floor, or furniture legs that are sticking out from under things. It also has a camera sensor that will snap the Roomba back to reality when it starts drifting from its intended location.

iRobot also added a set of rollers underneath the Roomba which do not have bristles and are therefore more likely to withstand knots than earlier models. These are also a little higher than the older rollers, Top robot Vacuum cleaner and will fit better under beds and couches with low sides, and they're designed to allow this model to move more easily across different flooring kinds.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other high-end models Its main feature is the inclusion of a new dirt detection feature that uses cameras to identify particles of dirt embedded. This is a significant improvement over the previous model which relied on a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around the room and clean the area three times, at different angles.

In our tests of its performance, the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. Its score on low pile carpet was excellent and it got a very excellent score on mid pile too. It did a great job getting rid of pet hair, however it struggled with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

Despite these small shortcomings, the Roomba 980 remains one of our most efficient robots, and it's not even close to being as expensive as some of the other top-of-the-line models on this list. It's got plenty of features we'd expect to see in a flagship model however, it doesn't come with all the fancy apps or smart home integration that you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and start up and running immediately. After removing the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from the undercarriage, all that you need to connect it to its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, press its large "Clean" button, and let it get to work. It will return to the dock when it runs out of batteries or is full of sand. There are also indicator lights on top that indicate when its bin is empty, when it requires recharging, or if it loses Wi-Fi.
